Mistakes People Make Before Summer

Prepping your skin for summer starts well before your first beach trip. Summer skincare is really just an extension of a year-round skincare routine. However, there are a few common mistakes that people make prepping their skin for summer.

The first mistake people make is getting an exfoliation or peel right before the summer months. Heavy peels and heavy exfoliators are a great way to refresh your skin but they also leave it vulnerable to the elements. These procedures should be done in winter or well before summer. When done closer to the summer months, they can leave your skin less protected against sun and environmental elements.

The second common mistake is not wearing sunscreen anytime you go outside, even when it’s raining and cloudy. Zinc oxide is the best type of sunscreen because it provides a physical protectant and layer against damaging UVA and UVB rays. If you can’t use zinc oxide, you should look for a sunscreen with mineral protectants as they will last longer and provide better protection than traditional sunscreen lotions.

Prep Your Skin for Summer

Aside from avoiding heavy peels and exfoliators and adding sunscreen into your daily routine, there are ways to ensure your skin is at its healthiest heading into summer.

The first healthy skin tip is to drink lots and lots of water. While our skin is the largest organ in our body, it can be the last to get hydration. So if you’re not drinking enough water, your skin isn’t getting enough hydration. Eating fruit, especially watermelon, is another great way to keep your body, and skin, hydrated and healthy.

Another key to ensuring your skin is prepared for the summer is to not skimp on moisturizer. Similar to staying hydrated, an external moisturizer is essential to healthy skin. As the weather warms, our skin can become oilier and it can be tempting to skip the moisturizing step but it’s still important to healthy and happy skin.

Keeping Your Skin Healthy

Once your skin is prepped for the summer months, there are a few ways you can ensure that your skin stays healthy all summer long.

The first tip can be summed up in three words: sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. The sun is your skin’s biggest enemy in the summer. As tempting as a tan may be, tanning is the quickest way to skin damage. Zinc oxide and mineral sunscreen are your best bets for optimal protection. Next, keep up your hydration routine through the summer. It is another great defense against skin damage and a way to keep your skin looking healthy.

Another way to keep your skin healthy in the summertime is to invest in cryo facials on a regular basis in the spring and summer months. Facials are great for your skin in the warmer months as long as they don’t involve heavy peels or exfoliators. In order to see the best results possible, it’s important to have one regularly, at least every 4-6 weeks. This is also a great way to de-stress and relax with some me-time.

One common complaint we hear from clients during the summer is dark spots or hyperpigmentation popping up on their skin during the summer. Icebox’s Oxygen Vitamin C Cryofacial is a safe and fantastic way to help combat this common skin complaint.
